Bakelite Nostalgia

Yes, compared todays phones (allsorts) it does sound rather pathetic. But they had style and they were bakalite and the one we had when I was a kid growing up in 'Austerity Britain'even had a little drawer set at the bottom for telephone numbers to be secreted. Excellent focus and such memories

Café Nostalgia ( Zoé Valdès ) ! c'est ce qui me vient tout de suite à l'esprit, pour la belle couleur café, et j'ai l'impression que c'est sur un comptoir de café non ? j'aime beaucoup l'homme qui s'éloigne dans la belle et forte lumière, on pourrait être à Cuba où ils ont toujours de vieux objets comme ça ( ventilateur derrière le téléphone ? ) j'aime beaucoup ton cadrage et l'ambiance qui se dégage de ton cliché !

btw: un photo comme un film!

Superbe photo rétro et superbe (re)trouvaille. Il n'y a pas un jeune qui pourrait comprendre le "22 à Asnières" de Fernand Raynaud. En fait ça n'a pas évoluer on n'arrive toujours pas à avoir son correspondant car maintenant c'est "Laisser votre message après le bip".

L'Homme s'éloigne, laissant, délaissant, dans l'ombre du temps, la technique qu'il a inventé.
En quelques décennies, on passe de l'ombre à la lumière et ton image matérialise bien cette marche en avant.
(la main prend la forme du cadran ! Excellent ! )

J'aime cette composition et le traitement de la lumière. Bravo.

C'est un peu comme si l'on était resté là des années durant, à attendre l'appel d'une personne... dont la voix n'a jamais raisonnée là où nous l'attendions.
Posés là, la tête entre les mains, le regard fixant l'objet désespéremment muet... j'entends presque la sonnerie stridente, celle qui aurait pu faire battre notre coeur encore plus vite... mais qui n'a jamais bouleversée l'attente qui nous endormait.
Et des années durant nous avons attendu... pendant que "l'autre" nous tournait le dos sans un mot.
J'aime ce que ta photo me procure...

Oh yes! What a great shot!

J'avais le même en ivoire et ne sait plus où il est ! Ça me rend dingue comme lui avec son pot de fleur sur la tête est sa boule d'escalier en verre dans la main gauche... Il disparaît dans la lumière du jour quand les antiquités, nos chers vieux amis, brunissent avant de s'effacer dans les tiroirs sans fond de nos mémoires, comme font les photos de nos arrière-grand-pères en taxi de la Marne...

Wow, the memories this brings back. Simpler less complicated times. I was walking the other day with my current phone and touched a button by mistake and the radio came on. I had no idea it even did that.

You have no idea how much meaning this has for me. I hate, hate cell phones. I only got one for the first time last year and want to throw it in the lake. And I had a nice black rotary for quite a long time--until it became impossible to use.

My rant aside, it's a lovely image.

J’en ai encore un quelque part dans ma cave que j’avais volontairement oublié de rendre à l’opérateur historique (Chut !!! :) … j’aime comme tu as placé à côté de la lumière floue de notre monde trop rapide et blasé, ce symbole un peu oublié du siècle des lumières maintenant dans l’ombre de la nostalgie… nostalgie d'une période que l'on voit plus simple et que l'on ne peut pas oublier parce qu'on lui doit beaucoup oui mais perso pas envie quand même de revenir en arrière : Le portable de mon fils m’a fait sursauter d’ailleurs l’autre jour quand il s’est mis à sonner avec exactement ce même son d’avant ! Un régal ta photo aux chaudes couleurs café crème ! Bisous :)

"Please hold the line..." :) When I was a child and later on a teenager we didn't even had a phone. Most people in Eastern Germany hadn't one... Ah... back to your picture, my dear... it is so so wonderful... love the tones you used for this, it's all about nostalgia...

Don´t ask me about my brain waves but this makes me think about a song with a band called The Beasts of bourbon. The lyrics goes like this:
I think about you sometimes and I go to call you up on the telephone
I hope my call gets through to you and finds you there all alone

Of course, IRL if I were to call you it would be an entirely different story. Much happier. But this is what you´re images are doing to me. Sets my imagination going. I love it!

A gorgeous image, Karine. I love the way you controlled the light here. You may not believe this but, when I was a kid on the farm, we had no phone at all for several years. When we finally got one, it had no dial. You had to ring the operator to place a call. Since it was a party line, you had to listen to the ring, on incoming calls, to determine if it was your call or someone else's.

That was another world compared to the nearly instantaneous worldwide communications we enjoy today. In spite of its problems, I much prefer the world we live in today. Thanks for this trip down memory lane.

This is a lovely photo and I can see that this phone (unlike the iPhone) comes with a fan to keep you cool!!!

Ce qui m'attire dans cette photo c'est qu'elle raconte une histoire, une mystérieuse histoire que chacun peut d'ailleurs imaginer à sa guise.
La composition est très belle avec ce téléphone dans l'ombre où l'on découvre progressivement les objets et l'arrière plan lumineux et flou à souhait. Les couleurs sont aussi bien adaptées au sujet.

When I was growing up as a kid we had one of these old telephones. I remember one of my brother's little fat fingers once got stuck in one of the holes... because he was playing with it... :) Thanks for bringing back these wonderful memories.

It makes me remember back to when we had dial phone when I was a child. It was so exciting, that the day before the new phone worked, I agreed with a buddy that I should call him, though I knew that he was not at home. Then he also could have the chance to call me back, when he came home from school. Then we had both tried this new technological marvel.
